Virgil’s - House How it all Started

Established June 15th, 2007

I love to play games and do puzzles… and read books and old magazines. I adore children and I need elders – the spirit and boundless energy of children and the peace and introspect of elders is an amazing combination. I cherish community living, and the support and camaraderie it brings.

Concept

Laugh and play, and have fun, every single day. Make people laugh and make them feel special and appreciated. . Virgil’s House started as a concept – a way to bring people together to play games and do puzzles and have fun. To spend time talking and reminiscing and dreaming and planning. To meet new people and reconnect with friends and family without the distractions of modern living and pressures from work. THAT is why we have decided to do without technology here. We all need a break from the daily barrage of information and requests. We have decided to offer a sanctuary – a haven, a safe house! Here, in what I call “Kathland” there is face to face, thought provoking, pro-active communication. There is a sense of undivided attention. There is opportunity to think, to meet, to laugh, to play. To sit uninterrupted while eating, drinking, talking, playing or planning. A place for anyone to feel welcome and comfortable. Come alone, with your children, your parents, friends or the love of your life. And for the record, we are BIG fans of technology.. just not exclusively.

What you see and use

We make it our mission to use items that are used – old china, silver , mugs and plates galore! Every book, game and puzzle in the shop is “recycled”. And on that subject, so are all of our paper products. We chose to use TORK – SCA, the manufacturer of Tork products, has a strong focus and commitment to delivering sustainable solutions. This means that all of their products are designed to minimize their impact on the environment.

Our cleaning products are a priority. We use RAM cleaner throughout the shop. The best part is that it’s a non-toxic, no phosphate, non-abrasive, non-flammable formula ~ both environmentally friendly and user friendly. We use ECO LAB for dishwashing hand-washing and sanitizing. Their total impact approach goes beyond green to help customers conserve resources, improve safety and reduce waste. Even our toilets were purchased with intention, and we chose Caroma - An Australian first, Caroma Smartflush® sets the benchmark for reducing water usage when it comes to toilet suites. The result is significant savings compared to older toilets which use up to 11 liters per flush - savings that add up to 35,000 liters of water every year.

Food & Drinks

We have chosen to offer food that makes sense. Local, natural, organic and some that are just fun! I grew up in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s so Lucky Charms and Jell-O are staples! We now do most baking right here!! Collin’s Meadowbrook Dairy provides our milk, butter, eggs and cream cheese. We bake our own natural, antibiotic and hormone free chicken. We look to buy first from a variety of local sources. NEVER hydrogenated oils. Always a focus on the best that we can have.

Customer Satisfaction

We say customer, but we not so secretly think of you as a friend or family member.

That really is it. You are the customer. You need to be satisfied, or even ecstatic. At the very least, REALLY happy with your food and drinks. SO PLEASE! Let us know if it is not what you anticipated. We will make it right. If not this time, then the next time. Speak up whenever you like. Let us know what works for you, or what doesn’t. We love ideas, suggestions, comments, and requests.

Furniture, Games, Books and Pictures

Almost everything in the shop is available to be borrowed, purchased or traded! See something you would like? Just ask!
